MY OPINION ABOUT FRANKENSTEIN OR THE MODERN PROMETHEUS

T his book known for the adaptations of Hollywood, with screws in the head and extravagant gadgets, was written by the famous Mary Shelley and published in 1818. A jewel of universal literature that all good readers tended to have on their shelf.

Located during the 17th century, the story begins narrated by Captain Walton, who, by staying barred in the middle of a trip to the North Pole, found a man in the ice. This one would soon reveal that it is the famous scientist Genovese (not in the history, only for us) Victor Frankenstein, who uncontrolled by his ambition and selfishness, wishes to give artificial life.

Victor's irresponsibility in creating a creature and then fleeing for contempt toward him, makes him see the same as a monster. Meanwhile, the creature begins by being innocent and friendly; but when he starts to be marginalized by the people, seeks to satiate his pain with the help of Victor. And when Frankenstein doesn´t provide such assistance, conflicts begin, turning the monster evil and revengeful .

"It was already one o’clock in the morning and the rain was beating against the windows. My oil lamp had burned low. By its weak light, I saw the monster’s eyes open. It breathed hard and its body moved wildly"

Personally, I was very sad about Victor's problem; Because trying to fix things, he make wrong decisions with disastrous consequences.

He and the monster are going to make the main characters of this history that will fill you with fear, suspense and reflection on scientific morality, the creation and destruction of life, and man's relationship with God.

For my personal opinion, I thought it was really good read, easy to read and left me in suspense throughout story that I could not put it down. I loved the language Mary employed in dialogues during it; However, the descriptions about buildings and customs did not catch my attention at all. The sadness and the loneliness is reflected in each one of the characters, being perhaps the reflection of the writer herself. We can also read that it was set in an era of discovery and expedition, this realism wraps you in the anecdote of Victor Frankenstein.

I give it 5/5 stars and will recommend it for all readers, especially for the lovers of science fiction and horror !!!
